                Looking Ahead

Sunday Sept. 6 - CREATION IN CHRIST Service. Come hear how our church will be joining with other denominations in celebrating the Good Earth that God has created and how we can be good stewards as followers of Jesus in repairing and caring for our Earth.

For this celebration, we would love for you to bring something from creation that you would like to share and place on the altar in thanks to God. Think of - flowers from your yard, a birdhouse or carving you made, pine cones you picked up, fruit from your garden, artwork you crafted, sand or seashells from the beach, etc. They will be part of the Service...

And because it is the first Sunday of the month when we have Fellowship Hour after the Service, we will also have a Feast of Creation meal, so please bring something to share that you "Created" to share.

Several Sundays ago we had a visit from Rev. Eric Shafer of Global Refuge, who updated us on the challenges facing refugees here in the US. Below are some opportunities to take action in supporting refugees.

"This month is the 5th anniversary of the Afganistan evacuation. Anniversaries offer an opportunity to reflect. In a new blog post, our Advocacy and Policy team breaks down the history of the Convention and how recent policy changes have diluted its humanitarian ideals—as well as offers a chance to take action and demand a recommitment to welcome.  Here is a link to the webinar

     from Aug. 13th.

Locally, Church of the Cross has been supporting NorCal Resist, a mutual aid organization helping the Sacramento immigrant community. Cross has held food drives, and this year received a grant from LDSS for NorCal Resist to help pruchase diapers and hygiene products.  Giselle Garcia, their executive director, sent us this receipt for all the goods they purchsed with the grant.

You can also help NorCal Resist fund DACA fees, rent assistance for ICE-impacted families, and so much more by becoming a one time or monthly sustainer to NorCal Resist.

To learn more about NorCal Resist you can visit their website at  www.norcalresist.org
