Looking Ahead
Sunday, August 2nd Janey will preach and lead the service. She always brings great Biblical knowledge! It's also the first Sunday of the month, so we will have our Happy Birthday Fellowship Hour following the Service.
Please bring snacks to share - birthday desserts will be provided.
Sunday, August 9, our pulpit guest will be Yene Wolteji, founder and ED of Bridging Initiatives International. She has preached many times in her country of Ethiopia and is a member of Town & Country Lutheran. This should be very interesting and enlightening. Janey Ranlett will lead the worship service.
Women of the ELCA! Don't forget to register for the Sierra Pacific Synod WELCA Retreat at San Damiano Retreat Center in Danville. This year's theme is "I Am Worthy" and there will be a Taize Service, Bible Study, 2 Workshops, free time for relaxation and enjoying fellowship. 2 nights and 6 meals plus all programs and Sunday Worship Service for only $185 double occupancy. ALL WOMEN ARE WELCOME, so invite your sisters, aunts, moms, daughters, friends! See Kevin Brown for registration details - kevin.brownlk@gmail.com
Several Sundays ago we had a visit from Rev. Eric Shafer of Global Refuge, who updated us on the challenges facing refugees here in the US. Below are some opportunities to take action in supporting refugees.
"This month is the 5th anniversary of the Afganistan evacuation. Anniversaries offer an opportunity to reflect. In a new blog post, our Advocacy and Policy team breaks down the history of the Convention and how recent policy changes have diluted its humanitarian ideals—as well as offers a chance to take action and demand a recommitment to welcome.
We will be commemorating the anniversary of the evacuation throughout August. Global Refuge (then LIRS) has stood with our Afghan neighbors every step of the way, from offering emergency food, clothing, and shelter upon their arrival to our continued advocacy for policies that maintain their safety and security in the U.S. (Check out our most recent press release to learn about a recent win.)
Join us for a live webinar as we reflect on the many highs and lows of Afghan resettlement in the U.S. in the past five years and provide updates on where things stand for our Afghan neighbors today."
