Our Story

Church of the Cross has stood on the corner of 45th and H St. for over 75 years. Cross is a church with a mission-inside and outside our four walls. Members of the church participate in the service, and offer fellowship and food to those who attend after every service. We are the church of the Open Refrigerator. Cross has a active WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) group that is open to every woman member. Our group generates many of our social and fundraising activities including the annual Garage Sale and Craft and Bake Sale. The church holds an annual Crab Feed that funds mission and maintenance of our church.

Every Sunday after service, we leave to be the church in the world. Beyond our neighborhood here in East Sacramento we serve meals the 4th Friday of every month at St. John's Program for Real Change. We provide a Christmas dinner and gifts for the clients of Wind Youth Services, which offers services to homeless youth on the streets of Sacramento. Our biannual trip to Navajoland to the Rock Point Lutheran Mission provides an opportunity to reach out to the Navajo in that community by offering a free vaccination program for their livestock. See the Missions page for a complete list for all that our small but mighty church does.
